Spirit of The Region Awards

Since 2008, the Chamber’s Spirit of the Region Awards have honored people and businesses that advance economic prosperity through community leadership. This year, we’re introducing seven new award categories designed to celebrate the significant efforts of our members and investors over the past year and to highlight their above-and beyond contributions to the forward movement of the Nashville region.

Special Awards

In addition, we’d like to recognize three special award recipients whose longtime leadership, stewardship, and vision has shaped the Nashville region.  

Connector Award
Denise LaGrange

Denise, a Global Real Estate Advisor with Zeitlin Sotheby’s International Realty, brings 25 years of leadership and a passion for helping newcomers feel at home in Middle Tennessee. Active in volunteer and civic work, she is honored with the Connector Award for sparking new member connections and strengthening community ties. 

Trailblazer Award
John Bradley

John Bradley has over 35 years of experience in economic development advancing job creation and investment. Since he joined Tennessee Valley Authority in 2002, he has led initiatives such as the Megasites Certification and Investment Credit programs. He is honored with the Trailblazer Award for decades of leadership driving regional growth. 

Catalyst Award
Melissa Hudson-Gant

With two decades in nonprofit leadership, Melissa Hudson-Gant became CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee in 2018 after roles at PBTF, YMCA, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She is honored with the Catalyst Award for strengthening Partnership 2030 investor relationships and opening doors for regional collaboration. 

Influencer Award
Lee Blank

Lee Blank has devoted more than 40 years to leadership at Regions Bank, where he now serves as Market Executive for Middle Tennessee. Active in civic and nonprofit boards across the region, he is honored with the Influencer Award for championing the Chamber, Partnership 2030, and aligning partners to advance business growth.

Changemaker Award
Urban League of Middle Tennessee

Since 1968, the Urban League of Middle Tennessee has empowered underserved communities in nine counties through programs in workforce, education, health, housing, and civic engagement. Their efforts to expand opportunity and bridge workforce gaps earn them the Changemaker Award for advancing labor force participation and entrepreneurial support.

Advocate Award
Moving Forward

For more than a decade, Moving Forward has united business and community leaders to address Middle Tennessee’s transportation challenges. Their coalition-building and advocacy helped secure passage of the 2024 Choose How You Move referendum. They receive the Advocate Award for advancing dedicated mobility solutions that expand access across the region.  

Innovator Award
Vanderbilt University
Vanderbilt University is advancing Nashville’s innovation economy through Discovery Vanderbilt, the Wond’ry, and plans for an innovation neighborhood. Co-founding the Innovation Alliance with Mayor O’Connell, Vanderbilt unites research, talent, and industry. The university receives the Innovator Award for its leadership in positioning Nashville as a national innovation hub.

Living Legacy Award
Jack Cawthon

For more than 30 years, Jack’s Bar-B-Que has been a Nashville staple, shaping Lower Broadway with its iconic neon and community investment. Serving millions through restaurants and catering, Jack Cawthon earns the Living Legacy Award for nearly five decades of entrepreneurship that transformed Nashville’s streetscape, hospitality, and visitor experience.

Leadership Excellence Award
Ralph Schulz

Ralph Schulz led the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce from 2006 to 2025, guiding regional recovery, launching Partnership 2020 and 2030, and founding the Nashville Entrepreneur Center. His legacy includes advancing education, transportation, and economic development. He receives the Leadership Excellence Award for exemplary service and mentoring future leaders. 

Century Award
Grand Ole Opry

For 100 years, the Grand Ole Opry has been country music’s biggest stage, showcasing legends and emerging artists alike. From its 1925 radio debut to today’s iconic live shows, it shaped the genre’s growth. The Opry earns the Century Award for elevating Nashville’s brand and redefining the live music experience.
